Awareness Through Movement™
with Francesca Frewer
Thursday, July 16th
10am-12:30pm
Awareness Through Movement™ is a somatic movement practice that re-patterns the nervous system's habitual movement pathways. Through structured movement explorations with specifically directed attention, participants develop greater efficiency and ease in movement -- reducing excess tension, building greater integrity and coordination, and refining embodied awareness. ATM™ helps people find freedom from habitual patterns which may lead to strain, discomfort, or injury, and opens up a world of continual exploration, refinement, and possibility.
In this workshop, we will dive into the practice of Awareness Through Movement through lessons that focus on relieving neck/shoulder tension, and improving mobility and support in the hips/pelvis mobility, respectively. We will explore important principles of The Feldenkrais Method® like balancing softness and stability, finding efficiency in movement, unwinding dominant habitual patterns, and moving with ease and flow. A meditative practice of embodied awareness, ATM creates a rebalancing effect for the nervous system, and gives students tools to bring what they learn through the practice into daily life and activity.

Francesca Frewer
Francesca Frewer is a Guild-Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner™ and lifelong movement nerd. A professional contemporary dancer, she originally encountered The Feldenkrais Method® while suffering from a career-impacting back injury. Feldenkrais was fundamental to her successful recovery, and since then has become for her an ongoing practice which continually yields new depths of inquiry in embodiment and awareness.
Francesca loves how The Feldenkrais Method’s focus on underlying patterns offers a way to move beyond recurring issues, address imbalances before they become injuries, and work with chronic difficulties that present more subtly. Before discovering Feldenkrais, Francesca had numerous experiences of persistent tensions, imbalances, and recurring injuries where it seemed the only answer was to stop doing certain activities. With Feldenkrais, she has gone beyond recovery, taking her performance to the next level and enjoying dramatically improved resilience. By delving into how a person uses their body in movement, Francesca helps clients refine their embodied awareness and learn to discern within themselves the differences between movement that is efficient and movement that leads to strain. Partnering with the incredible intelligence of the nervous system to help people become free of old patterns, Francesca supports people in recovery, long-term wellbeing, and continual growth.
