Reflexology is a non- invasive, complementary treatment that uses pressure to stimulate different areas of the feet that correspond with specific areas of the body. The treatment enhances and stimulates the bodies own healing mechanisms. Reflexology is an ancient practice, and similar types of treatments were recorded in China and ancient Egypt. While giving a treatment, a reflexologist may be able to tell which areas are out of balance and work holistically with you to bring the body back to homeostasis.
Reflexology should be seen as a compliment to allopathic medicine, especially with severe conditions. However reported benefits include, but are not limited to:
Stimulating and enhancing both circulation and nerve function, increasing the metabolism and energy levels by aiding the function of the different systems within the body, relaxation, removing toxins that have built up over time, and minimizing the occurrence of migraines, headaches, digestive issues, and menstrual irregularities. Reflexology is also used to prepare the body for childbirth and is beneficial as a post-natal treatment in bringing the body back to balance.
What to expect
The entire treatment normally lasts 55 minutes and includes a ten minute consultation followed by a 45 minutes Reflexology treatment. Most people find a reflexology treatment extremely relaxing but some points can sometimes be sensitive. As stress reduction is one of the major benefits of reflexology, I believe that the pressure should be maintained at a comfortable and enjoyable level as pain registers as stress in the body, and no one needs more of that!
After the treatment, it is a good idea to not over exert yourself too much and always stay hydrated, as reflexology can have a slight detoxifying effect.
A 55 minute session costs $90
