Maha Rose North
130 Morgan Hill road, Hurley, NY.

Maha Rose is excited to offer our 5-day sound school level 2 retreat in the beautiful Catskills this summer at Maha Rose North from August 20 - 25, 2019.

This training is designed for healing arts practitioners, clinicians, teachers, and musicians, looking to deepen their understanding and application of sound and music in their work and personal practice.

Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, Katie Down (LCAT, MT-BC, MM) and Yoga teacher, vocal specialist and sound practitioner, Jessica Caplan have put together a stellar line up of guest instructors for each day, with opportunities for hands on practicum training in a variety of modalities using sound and music in the healing arts. Read further for info on our instructors!

Sound School Level 2 is open to sound practitioners who have either completed Sound School Level 1 or who have previous training in sound in the healing arts. Offered in retreat style to create an immersive experience, this in-depth training will expand practitioners’ connection to sound in therapeutic modalities, covering basic music theory, history, practicum training, ethics and best practices.

Among the topics explored will be intuitive voice work, mantra and the energetics of sound, aesthetics of sound baths, instrument techniques, Mindfulness, and Deep Listening. Several guest teachers (details to be announced soon) will offer sessions on tuning forks, gong, and basic anatomy for sound practitioners.

Set in the beautiful Hudson Valley, there will also be time for participants to pause and tune into the frequency of nature, hike, swim in a nearby lake, and enjoy delicious vegetarian meals. There will be daily movement and meditation practice to open body and mind for learning, and evening sound experiences to enhance integration. Students will also have the opportunity to practice individual hands-on work, and receive feedback from the facilitators throughout the retreat.

She is passionate about creating heart-centered experiences that weave together music, movement, self-connection, community and the journey to Spirit. A yoga teacher since 2006, and a singer all her life, Jessica’s love of music and the healing arts merged several years ago when she began to study sound healing. She graduated from the Open Center’s Sound and Music Institute in 2013, and facilitates soundbaths, as well as workshops, retreats and trainings in voice and the art of therapeutic sound. As a vocal guide, Jessica provides students an embodied, loving approach to reawakening the connection to one’s voice, and through that, with oneself. She is a Reiki practitioner and Restorative yoga teacher, and continues her studies of sound healing, yoga, Native traditions, shamanic practices, and classical Indian music. Jessica is also the co-creatrix of SoundMind (, an audio meditation series combining meditation with therapeutic sound. She is currently based in the Hudson Valley.
