So where do we go from here, New York?
With Spiritual Speed Dating, Maha Rose presents a twist on the popular “speed dating” method of quick encounters, bringing a lot more love and presence to the life-changing moment of “meeting someone.”
The idea for the series came about with a lot of laughter. “What if we started writing ‘for singles’ on the bottom of events at Maha Rose?” Haha! Laughs aside, the recurring questions “How do I fit my love life into my ‘spiritual life?’” and “what if all the great people who visit Maha Rose were to speak their wishes for partnership out loud?” gave us pause. We knew we were onto something.
What happens at Spiritual Speed Dating? We start the evening off with a short meditation that helps us all ground down and get to the heart of things--our very nature of wanting to connect and know one another. A brief chakra chat or Tarot talk makes way for us to engage each other in conversation. Each participant has four minutes to talk to another (with a rotating sets of questions to help you along in case you feel tongue tied or starry eyed).
We keep the conversations going until everyone has had a chance to chat. Tea and chocolate magically appear and the temple becomes a space for mixing and mingling. The evening closes with a meditation on gratitude and the blessing of new beginnings. No need to ask anyone for their contact info; we will share it with the group via email the next day, and the conversations can continue in whatever way feels good to you.
We at Maha Rose invite you to join us for all things loving and allow the evening to unfold casually and comfortably. Its the time and place for everyone to fall in love a little bit with each other, one conversation at a time. Be good to yourself and the one you are about to meet. We look forward to seeing you there.
Spiritual Speed Dating is a collaborative project between practitioners Carolyn Agis, Elyssa Jakim, and Yasminca Wilson at Maha Rose. The next speed dating evening is the straight edition on April 18 at 7 p.m. We hope you can make it!
If you are interested in the queer edition, please join us in May. For questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We thank Morgan Yakus, Luke Simon, Lisa Levine, and Elyssa Jakim for their inception of the idea and all the unseen guides we find along the way. Thank you.
