Hello dear ones. Welcome to March and with it the promise of spring! This week’s card is the Queen of Swords reversed. Oh queen, may we see the truth that your sword represents and welcome the decisions that await us.
A court card of Yetzirah (the world of Formation and of Angels) the Queen of Swords represents water (feminine) of air (masculine). What more could you expect of a card that rules the tail end of Virgo and the first half of Libra? Analytical and discerning, our queen teaches us the lower polarity of her suit in her reversal.
As mentioned last year, the queen of each suit shares the same sephirah on the Tree of Life as the three of that same suit. In this case, the Three of Swords gives us further insight into the nature of the Queen of Swords, as they both live in the sephirah of “Understanding” on the Tree of Life. The Queen of Swords, like the Three of Swords, can connect to the pain of it all, the pain that the world feels--the recognition that all the life has the seed of death within it. The moment we are born, we are destined to die, and the Queen of Swords knows this. In her reversed state, she might linger “long here by the chambers of the sea” and wallow in the sorrow that she sees.
But our Queen of Swords has great resilience and her discernment is strong. She asks you this week to put on your glasses and see things as they are, not as they were or what you think they should be. That presence of mind that sees into the heart of things, in the now, moves beyond the temporality of sadness to the timelessness of joy. Raise your hand and summon the spring! Look to the sky and see that the clouds are lifting. Winds of change indeed.
