Energy healing, Reiki, and community Reiki revealed September 17 2014
The Buddha was said to have given spontaneous physical healings, instantaneous cures to physical ailments. In the late 1800's in Japan, Dr. Mikao Usui, a learned teacher and monk, wanted to get to the bottom of "spontaneous healing." His task was no easy one, for all writings about the healing work from the Buddha and other spiritual leaders focused on the spirit, not the body. After years of study, and rigorous pursuit, Usui discovered Reiki, or it discovered him. Simply put, Reiki is the universal energy of life. It’s the animating principle. It is a harmonizing, high vibration, purifying energy that has its own natural intelligence. This energy works on the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels, helping to bring us back to our natural state of peace and well-being. Transmitted through gentle touch, Reiki has the ability to comb out the kinks of the energetic body: balancing, smoothing, soothing, and calming. We believe that it’s very important for New York City and Brooklyn to be receiving Reiki, because it infuses this stressful environment with stillness, serenity, positive energy, and spiritual bliss. Reiki is an extremely valuable tool for anyone who practices bodywork and healing, for it infuses the hands with healing energy (when two Reiki practitioners hold hands, it’s like whoa!). It’s also equally valuable for personal healing “It’s helped my sleep so much!” “It’s like I have my own anti-anxiety medication in my hands” our Reiki practioners have said.
How do you become a practitioner? Like most forms of energy healing, Reiki is transmitted to a practitioner in a series of attunements, through a master. There are three courses of Reiki: Reiki 1, Reiki 2, and Reiki master. If you’d like to learn with us, Maha rose offers all three courses. Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 with Lisa Levine are coming up the first weekend of October. Lisa MS LAc is a licensed acupuncturist, Reiki master, a natural healer and an artist as well as the founder of Maha Rose. Lisa has been studying and practicing Reiki since 2005 and teaching it since 2009.
What is community Reiki? Community Reiki is held bi-monthly at Maha Rose. Anyone who wishes to join is welcome to walk in (or sign up beforehand) to receive a 20-minute session on a donation-based sliding scale. This is a great way to experience Reiki first-hand and see how you like it. It’s also a wonderful venue for practitioners of all levels to share their healing work and grow among peers. They say that Reiki calls people. If you’re feeling the pull, come on in and try it out. We begin and end the night with a gentle meditation, allowing the Reiki energy to flow through the space and then sending all the good vibes we’ve created out to Brooklyn, New York City, and the world at large.
